Hillary, Donald and The State of American Health

Health, or the lack of it, seems to be on everyone’s minds these days. Is Hillary sick? Is Donald overweight? Are they more or less healthy than past candidates? Their respective political machines are advancing theories on an hourly basis, it seems.

Well, one thing’s for certain…we all worry from time to time about our own health and that of our loved ones. We may seem healthy today but we know that can change quickly.

I don’t want to write a “how to stay healthy blog”. You can read one of those from a health expert. No, what I wanted to talk about is having a plan in place IF your health takes a turn for the worse.

We hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. If you can’t answer the following questions with certainty, it might be time consider getting some help:

  • How long will your money last if you get sick and need some kind of ongoing care?
  • What if you get sick and have to retire earlier than you expected? Do you have enough saved for retirement?
  • Is your home at risk if you need to go into a nursing home and can’t afford the cost?

Certainly there are planning strategies available once the worst has already happened, but, and this is a really important point…The planning strategies available to you while you’re still healthy are much, much better.

As the old saying in the medical profession goes, “An ounce of prevention is a worth a pound of cure.”
